Hugo was found as a stray and after the 10 day mandatory hold, we were contacted by the animal control office of Blackstone. That was in October of 2007. He spent over 3 years with the rescue in a foster home. We never understood why such a beautiful and sweet dog would generate such little interest.

Hugo had a busy year in 2009. He went on a trial adoption. He did great, the family loved him but the resident female dog was not so fond of him. Back he came.

He was then adopted to a family with young children. He did great there as well. Loved all the children but little did we know that the family across the street had a pet duck that played ball with their lab in the front of their house. Hugo always had a prey drive for small outside animals and he wanted that duck in a bad way. So….he was returned.

His forever home was finally found only miles away from where he was fostered. They initially approached us as a potential foster home as they lost their Doberman and were not over that very difficult loss. This wonderful couple spent a lot of time making sure they educated themselves about bully type breeds and made sure they were over the loss of their previous dog and ready to adopt another. They took him on weekends over a few months and finally decided that he was their boy!! Such a happy new beginning for Hugo and a great start to the New Year for our rescue. Thanks to Steve, his foster Dad and to Jim and Sharon who have opened their hearts and home to Hugo… Forever grateful.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the photo contest! We raised hundreds of dollars which will help pay for spay/neuters, vet bills and food for the many dogs in the rescue.

Now for the winners of the contest. Everyone’s photos were so beautiful and all the dogs were just so adorable. We had such a difficult time picking the 3 winners, we decided to choose 5 runners up who will also receive small prizes.

Thanks again to all who participated and congratulations to the winners!
