Kelly Jean – Adoption Counselor/Foster Home

I first met Noreen back in 2005 while I was working at Baypath Humane Society. I had actually never had any experience with Pit Bulls before working there. I soon realized that there wasn’t an ounce of truth to the frenzy of lies created by the media. I could not understand why these dogs were so feared.

The more hands on experience I had with these dogs, the more I felt the need to help them overcome the awful stigma surrounding their breed. My first official PittieLove Rescue foster dog was the silliest looking dog you’d ever seen, Derby (now Dixie). She had these crazy ears that stood straight up, and these short legs that sort of turned out. She was a blast to foster and I still keep in touch with the family that adopted her. Her dad tells me that she is still as silly as the day she left my house!

I have since left my job at Baypath to pursue Veterinary School and to work as a veterinary technician full time for a local animal hospital in preparation. I have continued to work closely with PittieLove Rescue as a foster home, adoption counselor, and also arranging for vet care at my hospital for several of the dogs in rescue. I have changed many minds about Pit Bulls at the animal hospital. I have even encouraged a few of the clients, and employees to foster and adopt a needy dog (or two) as well. I love fostering and most importantly being a breed advocate for dogs who have a very undeserved bad reputation. No matter where I end up in the future, I will always do my part to promote the importance of helping defend the dignity of such a wonderful breed of dog.
