Meet Chance! This gentle and trusting 5-year old came to us after being found tied to a tree off a hiking trail, lethargic, drooling, and displaying neurological symptoms. Chance spent 4 days at Tufts Veterinary Hospital upon being picked up by Animal Control to stabilize him, but he is still in need of a neurology consult to determine his condition and prognosis. We suspect it is Cerebellar Cortical Degeneration, a degenerative genetic condition which makes him wobbly on his feet. His back legs are weak, which you might be able to see in some of his photos. He does stairs ok for now, but that might not always be the case and he shouldn’t be unattended near stairs in case he takes a tumble.
Chance is currently LOVING all the comforts of home with his foster family, enjoying a warm bed, yummy food, and available love. He is a calm and mellow guy who has tested well with dogs (cats unknown). Chance just needs a chance and a family to call his own. People who will stand by him and love him for exactly who he is. Due to his size and lack of history, older kids would be best for this gentleman.
UPDATE: Chance had his MRI thanks to our supporters’ generous donations! There was plausible explanation for the symptoms that Chance is showing, but thankfully no indication for surgery or other treatments at this time. The doctor concluded that Chance’s brain was completely normal, though his left thyroid gland is enlarged. We’re hoping this is due to something benign, like overgrowth of normal tissue. There was also evidence of inflammation of some facial nerves, which could be the reason for his clinical symptoms. All in all, not bad!
